Clariant and CONSER further deepen cooperation in maleic anhydride industry

Clariant, a specialty chemicals company focused on sustainable development, recently announced that it has signed an agreement with Conser, a subsidiary of the MAIRE Group, to supply maleic anhydride catalysts. Successful SynDane® at Clariant
Based on the series of catalysts, the two parties will jointly develop a new generation of maleic anhydride catalysts to improve the productivity, cost-effectiveness and sustainability of the maleic anhydride unit.

This cooperation comes at a favorable time when global demand for maleic anhydride, especially in China, continues to grow. Maleic anhydride is not only an important component of polymers and coatings used in the construction, automotive, shipping and energy industries, but is also an important intermediate in the production of biodegradable plastics.

Kunpeng Wei, Global Vice President of Specialty Catalysts Business Unit of Clariant Catalysts Business Unit (Xaver
Karsunke said: “We are pleased to cooperate with the well-known technology licensor Conser to promote the sustainable production of maleic anhydride. The cooperation between the two parties began more than ten years ago, and the signing of the agreement has further strengthened the cooperation.

So far, five new maleic anhydride production projects have adopted solutions combining Clariant catalysts with Conser process technology. Our cooperation will enable more and more customers to benefit from the combined capabilities of both parties. ”

Bernini said: “This agreement will further enhance the reliability of our sustainable technology solutions, with a product portfolio ranging from technology licensing to the supply of patented equipment and other high-value services, in line with the implementation of our ten-year plan.

We are eager to work with Clariant to further optimize our technology offerings to best meet our customers’ needs for innovative, energy-efficient solutions. ”

Conser S.p.A. is a subsidiary of the MAIRE Group’s Sustainable Technology Solutions business unit, led by NEXTCHEM.

Conser is a leading global licensor of maleic anhydride process technology, with a focus on the growing Chinese market. The company has extensive experience in the production of maleic anhydride and its derivatives, providing state-of-the-art maleic anhydride production unit designs to reduce production costs, improve product quality and reduce environmental impact.

Clariant SynDane®
The catalyst is used to produce maleic anhydride in a cost-effective manner by promoting the partial oxidation of n-butane in a fixed-bed tubular reactor. Its excellent productivity and selectivity can significantly reduce the formation of by-products and their downstream polymerization, thereby significantly reducing downtime for equipment cleaning.

China’s demand for SynDane® catalysts is extremely strong, so Clariant invested more than RMB 100 million in 2019 to significantly expand the production capacity of its Panjin plant.
